FARE Walk 2017

For the past few years I have been participating in a local Food Allergy Research and Education (FARE) Walk. This would have been my fourth walk, except last year it rained and we were unable to go. The first two years I went with my school, I asked one of the clubs if we could go and we had great success.

The walk used to take place in October, but for some reason this year it was early September. I went with my parents and my sister this year, it was too early in the school year for the club to go.

The walk was already a few weeks ago, which is odd to say because I am used to it being in middle to late October. Instead of a Halloween theme like in the past, it was superhero themed. Small children got capes to wear and it was very neat idea. My family got teal t-shirts and it was really fun to walk in matching shirts.

This year we raised $200 for FARE. Special thanks to those who donated! As you may know from a previous post (from May 1, 2017), FARE means the world to me. They are such an amazing company that brings people with food allergies together and helps make our world a safer place.

Recently FARE completely updated their website so it is more user friendly on not only the desktop version, but mobile version as well. There is lots of information on their website about food allergies, events and more. There are FARE Walks all across the country during all times of the year.

At each FARE Walk there are sponsors who set up tables and give out free samples. Enjoy Life was one of the sponsors and is one of the only companies out there that makes food completely free of the top eight allergens. Even though there is free samples and free food given out, during FARE Walks food cannot be eaten. Everyone has different allergies and even if something is free from the top 8, the other ingredients in it could be someone else's allergens. Any food could be a potential allergen, which is why it is just best to not eat anything while at the walk.

The FARE Walk is always a fun event. I am so thankful I was able to go this year and I am looking forward to going again next year!
