Back to the Kitchen (B2K#1)
Hello! I am so sorry it has been such a long time since I have posted. Recently I finished up the spring semester and then started two summer courses and increased my hours at work. The one course I am in is online and the other one is back in the lab kitchen at school.
We have six days of labs and therefore I will be posting a six post mini series about my experiences in the lab kitchen for the second level of cooking.
My class exists and only consists of four students, thanks to special permission of the dean. (Thank you!) The minimum is usually eight to ten students for a class to run. My classmates are amazing and the course so far has been a really fun experience. I am also learning a lot since there are less students the professor and lab assistants can focus more time on each of us.
The first day of class we went over the expectations, assignments and syllbus. We also changed textbook companies and the new textbook is amazing. I also had the professor sign off on my acessability notification form and then brought it back to their office right after class.
The second day of class was our first day back in the kitchen. I had not been in the lab kitchen for a class since the end of December. I was there two or three times during the spring semester for when we made items in gourmet club.
I worked with this super nice girl and our food came out really yummy. We both do not cook often and I think were both suprised how nice our food came out. We made beef fajitas, guacamole, salsa, refried beans and cilantro-lime rice.
I can't eat beans so I had no idea how to make refried beans. The professor came over and helped us make them. Apparently we ended up making them like perfect, but neither of wanted the beans anyways.
I hope to make the cilantro-lime rice, guacamole, salsa and beef fajitas recipes again at home soon as they were super simple and fun to make.
